How do you recognize a sunken floor?

Whether it concerns tilted concrete slabs, sunken poured concrete floors, asphalt roads, driveways or yard pavements: we make sure your floor, road or surface becomes solid and level again. Subsidence often occurs due to voids beneath the surface, for example caused by soil compaction, erosion or settlement under load. But how can you recognize a sunken floor? Common indicators include:
- Cracks or fractures in the surface: these do not appear without reason and are often a clear sign of movement in the subsoil.
- The floor sits lower than door thresholds, columns, foundations or walls: overall subsidence is sometimes less visible than cracks, but becomes noticeable where levels meet. In some cases, floors appear to “hang” around supported columns, which indicates a loss of support underneath.
- Uneven or sloping floor sections: in floors made up of separate concrete slabs, height differences can occur between elements.
- Hollow sounds when tapping the surface: this often indicates voids beneath the floor.
- Movement under load: if floor sections move when loaded, this is a strong indication of underlying voids.
