Floor lifting of subsided floors can be carried out in different ways and with different filling materials. The most commonly used materials are rigid foam or foam concrete. In principle, the method is similar: small injection holes are drilled into the floor, through which a filling material is injected beneath the structure. Due to the expansion or pressure of this material, the floor is carefully lifted, and voids are filled. But what are the exact differences between rigid foam and foam concrete? And in which situation do you choose one solution over the other?
Foam composition: chemical or organic?
The main difference between the two is whether the material is chemically or organically produced. Rigid foam, often referred to as polyurethane foam (PU foam), expands rapidly and hardens quickly. It is created through a chemical reaction between two liquid components (most commonly polyol and isocyanate). During injection, these substances react, causing the foam to expand and harden. The foaming agent used in the foam concrete of Faber Vloerliften is based on organic components. Because the filling material comes into direct contact with the subsoil, it is essential that it is safe for both people and the environment. Application and product properties
Rigid foam expands very quickly and is, compared to foam concrete, lighter and often more cost-effective. It also hardens faster, which is beneficial for rapid repair work. However, due to its strong expansion, it is less precise. The degree of expansion depends on several factors. Therefore, rigid foam is often used for smaller projects where load and flatness are less critical.
Foam concrete, on the other hand, is heavier but significantly stronger. Due to its high compressive strength, it can handle greater loads, making it suitable for heavier floors and larger surfaces.

Rigid foam is a filling material that hardens quickly and is therefore more suitable for fast lifting applications. Foam concrete, on the other hand, is better suited for heavier floors, larger surfaces, and long-term stability. It is therefore commonly used in production halls, industrial buildings, agricultural environments, distribution centres, and real estate projects.
